Thanks to Him, My Therapist Has Job Security

I've worn this top quite a bit over the years and I'm still fond of the hydrid mock wrap/halter design. I'm actually a bit surprised it hasn't appeared on the blog before, but I can figure out why. I've tried to sharply limit the number of posts that consist of a colored top and a bunch of black pieces, which is how I've always worn it before. Once I noticed that the teal accents of the top match my teal accordion skirt, this outfit became inevitable.

This photoshoot debuts on the blog a tiny corner of a huge and fabulous new shooting location that will be important in later posts -- Arlington Cemetary. No, not that one, the one in Atlanta. It isn't as fun for a historian as Oakland, but for style blogging, it's actually better.

The above shot is my favorite picture from this set and, quite possibly, the one that saved it from being discarded. I don't care for my hair or makeup from this photoshoot, nor many of my expressions, and both the top and the wrap were folding in uncooperative ways in huge numbers of shots. But somehow, this turned out kind of cute.

So after more than half an hour of wandering around and shooting in this little outdoor chapel area that was neatly sheltered from the sun despite the earliness of the hour, I decided to do one more photoset up on a dias. I hadn't really thought much about it the whole time, but as I approached, I was beset by sudden dread. I couldn't immediately place the source, so I cautiously kept walking, but the horror kept mounting. Then it hit me. I paused, hesitated, and began a reluctant retreat. Here's the dias:

See the problem? Statues! Ordinary, harmless statues. And only one of them with wings.

"Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead."

Darn you, Moffat.

Purple Again?

Posted: June 23, 2015
Worn: February 8, 2014

You wouldn't be able to tell from looking at my recent blog posts, but, believe it or not, I used to not care much for purple. Purple has been Lynn's favorite color for many years and she eventually brought me around. I even dyed her hair purple!

My conversion to the purple side was aided by the shortcomings of commercially available clothing. I prefer deep, pure, saturated jewel tones when I can get them. (Apparently I'm a Winter in my own mind.) Being a redhead, I have an affinity for green, but green clothing is usually too yellow, too blue, or too light for my tastes. Whereas I frequently encounter purple in appealing shades.

I've worn this scarf, belt, and pair of earrings on the blog a number of times before and even the beret and necklace once each. And now I've added these purple tights and wedges to my wardrobe as well. Be prepared for a lot more purple outfits to come. (Though, as of writing, I've finally picked up a few great green items too!)

Full Moon

Worn: January 20, 2014

I'm very fond of lunar motifs in jewelry and art, but this scarf is actually the first moon piece in my wardrobe. (The first of many, I expect.) There are two full moons on the scarf, but I think it looks best folded lengthwise so that only half of each is visible. I've worn this outfit, very little changed, quite a few times.

I returned to Murphy Chandley Park for this photoshoot. This time I lurked in an isolated picnic area instead of by the busy lake shore trail. Having less people watch me at work was nice, but far more importantly, this time the wind didn't ruin the bulk of my pictures.

I've got my bangs seriously tucked into my beret here, desperately trying to keep short bits from separating off from the main body. This stratagem was not entirely effective.

And introducing... my new boots! These Croft & Barrow "Alayna" boots will pretty much be replacing the Franco Sarto boots that I never seemed to stop wearing last year.

The Franco Sarto boots in turn replaced my earlier Croft & Barrow "Helena" boots, that I wore even more obsessively in 2012. All three were thrift store purchases, as part of my continuing quest for ever better black ankle boots.

The Tam of Youth

Posted: June 8, 2015
Worn: January 4, 2014

Some people look for a fountain, but I found it in a hat. Can you believe I was 33 when I made these pictures? I scarcely believe it myself and I was there.

I've known about this effect of my tam for some time and it can be seen in lesser degree the first time I took pictures of it.

I do a bit of superhero costuming at fandom conventions (Pictures someday!) and spandex catsuits tend to have a similar effect on my appearance.

My bangs separated like this often for most of 2014, though never moreso for a photoshoot than in this one. They finally grew long enough to stop separating, though now the trick is to keep them covering my forehead.

I chose Tuesday as the day to update this blog because I'm almost always home Tuesday. But this Tuesday I'm won't be, so I'm updating a day early.
